Day 1

New Year's Eve is a day of reflection. In our minds we review the previous 364 days; what went right, what went wrong, what coulda-shoulda-woulda been. Unfortunately the less fortunate memories are usually the ones that stand out from the rest. The uncomfortable and displeasing moments are the ones we find ourselves criticizing and contemplating the most when we think back... but it's when we remember the happiest moments that New Year's Eve can shift from a broken, depressing, get-me-another-drink-now night into a beautiful evening full of enchantment and shining with new beginnings.

2012 was a big year for Kristina, particularly there were a lot of "firsts." In February I turned 25 just a few days after I learned that I would soon become a first time home owner. In April I moved into my new town home and began a whole new chapter in my life. Just a couple months later I would bring home a teeny tiny new kitten, Bella, who was only six weeks old and weighed just over a pound when a good friend found her and put her into my arms. In October I received a prestigious award at work, the "Renaissance Gem Award," for the third quarter - another first. That same weekend I travelled to Colorado to visit my two older sisters and had an amazing vacation. My new room mate, Lindsay, moved in with me in November whom I had not met in person until the moment she drove in from California. Since then we have begun a great friendship and it has been an absolute pleasure getting to know her. Additionally, it feels great to know I am helping her through a difficult time in her life. Not too long after she moved in I stumbled across Sasha, my other kitten that I brought home the minute I saw her available for adoption at the pet store. I also cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner and decorated my new home for my first Christmas. While there are so many memories I have not specifically mentioned, it goes without saying that it doesn't make them any less important or meaningful. I will dearly miss those I have lost and I will continue to love those I have found.

I am looking forward to a great year and I know that regardless of whatever misfortune may come my way, I will still sit here on December 31, 2013 and feel best about the moments that make me smile.

Today I am sharing a photo taken last night of myself, my best friend Stephanie and my room mate, Lindsay. Cheers to 2013!
