Day 31

The first month of my daily photo blog is complete!

Looking forward to great things to come in 2013. Lots of big changes in the works.

Day 30

Lots of big things happening at work. Looking forward to many positive changes in the future. More to follow.

Today's photo: Miss Amber and I visited our friends at Chicago Prime for well earned spirits and yummy dishes.

Day 29

My stupid closet door fell off again. Grr.

Day 28

Why is it that every time I am curled up in bed, my eyes heavy, my breath slowing that my whacked brain remembers some random memory and an hour and a half later I am still laying in bed staring at the ceiling just waiting to feel sleepy again? Every time I stay up past 10:30pm on a weeknight I count how many hours of sleep I am potentially getting.

10:30pm = 8 hours. 12:00am = 6.5 hours. Clock is ticking. Fuck.

Counting sheep doesn't help. Listening to music keeps me up. Throwing a movie on and keeping the volume low sometimes helps.

Closing my eyes and inducing dream sequences? Hmm.

Today's photo: Koi.

Day 27

Got my ass off the couch and into the gym today. It feels so good to get back to eating right and working out. This winter has been taking a toll on me... all my jeans are significantly tighter these days!

Today's photo: Baked lemon, garlic and dill salmon with brussel sprouts and rice. Om nom nom.

Day 26

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.

Day 25

Day 21

Poker night! Didn't win, but caught a few really fun hands.

Day 20

The weekend continues. Today I visited my parents for dinner and helped them sort through a few things to get ready for a move in the near future. After dinner I stopped by a friends place to catch the Blackhawks win in Arizona, and afterward we decided to hit up Grand Victoria Casino. I played craps for the first time ever and had a blast! Great stuff.

Todays photo: When we were little my sisters and I finished this really hard puzzle. We bought it during one of our many vacations to South Dakota at Crazy Horse. Dug it out of the closet today!

Day 18

My mom and dad put the house up for sale today. It's surreal to think that someone else could be living in our family's home before the year is over...

Day 13

"Lazy" doesn't even begin to describe my day. I woke up early this morning to feed the kitties and could not fall back asleep, so I decided to turn on the television and lay in bed for a bit. So many great movies were on... I just couldn't find the energy or the will power to get up and organize like I had originally planned! Oh well.

Since the revised NHL schedule was posted on Saturday I was able to score tickets for March 1. Yay! I am so excited to go to a game after I surely thought this season was a bust. Lindsay was kind to make a lovely dinner for two tonight - she had the same laid back plans for today. I ended the night with the Golden Globes and found it very entertaining. Now I am more excited to see some of the movies I have been waiting to see for a long time.

This week will be busy at work. I have been thinking a lot about my job and where I want to be at this point in my life. It's important to me to stay on top of my game; even though I seriously doubt I will be an Executive Assistant my whole life, I want to do it to the best of my abilities and explore any possible opportunities for growth that may become available to me. I plan on doing things a little differently in 2013 - just need to get a game plan together.

Today's photo: My flannel sheets. Aren't they cozy?

Day 12

Saturday. The greatest accomplishment today was spending under $100 on groceries and getting everything I needed - hell yes to bargain shopping skills! Stephanie came home from her work trip to Arizona so I took a cruise to O'Hare to scoop her up and bring her home. Lindsay and I treated ourselves to Portillo's for dinner and topped off the night at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar. The band was fun, the drinks were strong, we rocked the dance floor and almost got into a cat fight (some girl who had way too much to drink was looking for attention).

Today's Photo: Jack Daniels to the rescue.

Day 11

Gotta love Fridays.

This morning at 3am I had one of those horrible I-swear-it-was-real nightmares. I woke up sobbing in tears because it was about Sasha. It was quite funny after the fact. The moment I realized it was a dream I literally walked around my house like a lost zombie, half awake and half naked, fumbling in the dark looking for her so I could cuddle with her back to sleep. Woke up again at 7am on my stomach and Bella was asleep on my back keeping me warm and snuggly. She tends to do that.

Work was pretty uneventful today. I got out early and headed to a couple stores to get some errands out of the way. Came home, changed into pajamas and crashed for a couple hours. I woke up feeling re-energized, showered and spent the evening with friends playing the best game ever... and taking shots of whiskey. See photo below.

Day 9

Is it Friday yet? It's been a VERY busy and long work week, especially after working 12 hours yesterday and 9 hours today. Our annual visit with the regional vice president was a success; while my bosses sat in meetings all day I was able to complete a lot of my projects without distraction. We still have two large meetings in the next month that I will need to organize.... Once my birthday rolls around it should all be over (well, at least a break)!

Today's photo: Cheering on the boys playing tonight in the Palatine Park District basketball league, followed with a cold beer at Brauhaus.

Day 8

I decided today it is finally time to start drawing my first tattoo. I've wanted ink for a long time and I am pretty sure I know which design I want to work on. A dream inspired me the other night.

Today's photo: Something I found a few weeks back at the store and brought home. Also a hint for what I am choosing for my tat!

Day 7

Today was exhausting at work. Monday Funday...?

Came home and didn't even blink before I changed into my pajamjams.

Today's catch: My faithful red stapler.

Day 6

I forgot to take a picture of the freaking amazing sammich I ate at Epic Deli. Fail.

I was too busy shoveling it into my mouth apparently.

Instead, here is another little slice I took the other day.

Saturday, January 5, 2013

Day 5

A lot got accomplished today. Took down Christmas decorations, cleaned the entire house, finished laundry and had a mini girls night. Scarfed potato skins and pizza (and a little bit of vino) while playing cards and watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Today's photo: I put on my Susie Homemaker apron and did a little baking tonight - Peanut Butter Bars!

Day 4

Happy Birthday to my friends Steve and Samantha, and also to my mom and dad's pup Molly! Pretty much danced my ass off tonight at the bar celebrating Sam's birthday. My feet are really happy to be tucked into bed.

Today's photo: A picture my mom sent me of Molly and her birthday treat!

Day 3

Long day at work preparing for all the excitement next week. Stopped at Home Depot to buy some hardware for my new mirror and finished the second piece of furniture I bought at IKEA yesterday.

Today's photo: Little Sasha playing with a box. Bella was inside it!

Day 2

Spent the last three hours putting together IKEA furniture with the roomie. I couldn't tell you how many times I dropped the f-bomb tonight! My brain is a little fried.

Lots of good laughs. Carpe fucking diem.

Day 1

New Year's Eve is a day of reflection. In our minds we review the previous 364 days; what went right, what went wrong, what coulda-shoulda-woulda been. Unfortunately the less fortunate memories are usually the ones that stand out from the rest. The uncomfortable and displeasing moments are the ones we find ourselves criticizing and contemplating the most when we think back... but it's when we remember the happiest moments that New Year's Eve can shift from a broken, depressing, get-me-another-drink-now night into a beautiful evening full of enchantment and shining with new beginnings.

2012 was a big year for Kristina, particularly there were a lot of "firsts." In February I turned 25 just a few days after I learned that I would soon become a first time home owner. In April I moved into my new town home and began a whole new chapter in my life. Just a couple months later I would bring home a teeny tiny new kitten, Bella, who was only six weeks old and weighed just over a pound when a good friend found her and put her into my arms. In October I received a prestigious award at work, the "Renaissance Gem Award," for the third quarter - another first. That same weekend I travelled to Colorado to visit my two older sisters and had an amazing vacation. My new room mate, Lindsay, moved in with me in November whom I had not met in person until the moment she drove in from California. Since then we have begun a great friendship and it has been an absolute pleasure getting to know her. Additionally, it feels great to know I am helping her through a difficult time in her life. Not too long after she moved in I stumbled across Sasha, my other kitten that I brought home the minute I saw her available for adoption at the pet store. I also cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner and decorated my new home for my first Christmas. While there are so many memories I have not specifically mentioned, it goes without saying that it doesn't make them any less important or meaningful. I will dearly miss those I have lost and I will continue to love those I have found.

I am looking forward to a great year and I know that regardless of whatever misfortune may come my way, I will still sit here on December 31, 2013 and feel best about the moments that make me smile.

Today I am sharing a photo taken last night of myself, my best friend Stephanie and my room mate, Lindsay. Cheers to 2013!
